Day 15 Another day in Pond Inlet

Today, Saturday June 14  Jack spent the day getting acquainted with Pond inlet and the folks there.
He met a pilot there who had trained in Langley, so a few stories were shared.
He met a the local fellow who is in charge of the airport.
This fellow ( forgot his name) spent time telling Jack about the traditional ways they still hunt seal and narwal.
Jack was invited to go on a three day narwal hunting trip but he had to decline.
He said he definitely was not equipped for that, would have needed much warmer clothing etc.

Tomorrow he is treating himself to Fathers Day Brunch at the hotel. He said "I deserve it".
I did not clarify if that is because he raised 5 daughters or he has not had a "real" meal for some time???
He has been living of of reconstituted freeze dried food and sleeping in the plane except for a few nights.
Tomorrow he plans to head out for Iqaluit where he may be grounded for a bit as there may be no fuel there to tank up.
Might have to wait for the next shipment.

These pictures  below of Pond Inlet are not Jack's. I am sure there will be many to come.
He can only reach me by Sat phone so no internet or cell to send anything.
He said yesterday was nasty with howling winds and cold but today is like a lovely summer day.
He called at midnight and the sun was shining brightly, how does one sleep up there???

So remote yet  can still see the  influence of the world to the south.
The cruise ship looks so out of place!!
Their traditional hunts are still in tents, wonder if they look like this one below?

So interesting to be learning about our North.
Sleep well Jack, enjoy your brunch =)
